The River Garden Café is located in picturesque East Burke Village, nestled in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. Named an "editor's pick" by Yankee magazine, the River Garden is a favorite gathering spot for visitors and townspeople alike.

Bobby Baker and David Thomas founded the café in 1992 following successful careers as restaurateurs in Manhattan. The café's ambiance is one of casual elegance, the quintessential Vermont experience, where diners may be right off the bike or ski trail or on their way to the theater. Our backyard garden paths lead to a footbridge over the river, a great place for a relaxing after-dinner stroll.

The cuisine is New Culinary Age, showcasing the freshest ingredients presented imaginatively in generous proportions by talented chef Travis Chapman. The eclectic menu and our chalkboard of daily specials are sure to entice any palate. Here's just a sampling: Start with our famous artichoke dip, garlic shrimp, or fried ravioli. Our salads are enhanced by our own dressings, so good that - by popular demand - we're bottling them. Then, on to an entrée: Your choice of one of our grilled or pan roasted meats - from filet mignon and pepper crusted lamb loin to a giant porterhouse - the freshest possible seafood, or one of our vegetarian selections. And be sure to save room for
dessert: From seasonal fruit cobbler to classic crème brûlée, all of our desserts - including our ice creams - are made in-house. We feature local produce in season, and grow our own herbs. We also offer "lighter side" and

The River Garden is fun and upbeat: The food is fantastic, the service is friendly, attentive and professional, and the ambiance is irresistible. The owners are always there, and it seems like they know most diners on a first name basis - sometimes it seems like all of the guests know each other as well. If you like excellent food in great surroundings with music like Dave Brubeck or Ella in the background, then The River Garden Café is for you.

In 2008, Nick Ouellette and Ann Lachance took over for Bobby and David. They are continuing the tradition of bringing high quality food to the table while adding their own flare and “taste” to the menu with popular standards and new offerings. Chef Travis Chapman worked at The River Garden for six years and  returned to The River Garden when it reopened. Before that, he was at the Tamarack Grille for two years, and ran the Tip Top Cafe in White River Junction for a year.
